Template
serves as a guide for scheduling various types of appointments
Established patient
one who has received professional health care services within the past three years from the physician or another physician of the same specialty who belongs to the same group practice
New patient
one who has not received any professional services from the physician or another physician of the same specialty who belongs to the same group practice within the past three years
Software
computer instruction permanently stored in or temporarily programmed into hardware: instruction that direct the computer or word processor to perform tasks; also refered to as a program
Appointment block
segment of time set aside in the appointment schedule for a specific patient type or procedure
Appointment book
set of sheets(lines) used to schedule and record time set aside for patients to see health care practitioners for procedures and services
Stream or Fixed Interval

is a scheduling a flexible appointment system that attempts to keep patient flow moving smoothly from one hour to the next; all patients are told their appointments are on the hour and each is seen in the order they arrive
Modified wave
patients are scheduled at the first half of each hour with single 10 minutes appointment; no appointment are scheduled the second half of the hour allowing for workings
Open Access
same day scheduling or advanced access; alows most patients to obtain appointment the same day they call
Open hours
allows patients to walk in anytime within a specified time frame and they are seen in order of their arrival; laboratories,x-ray facilities
Triage
to sort out those patients who need to be seen quickly from those who can wait
Personal Digital Assistant(PDA)
handheld computerized portable device that serve as an organizer, electronic book, or note taker with entries made via a key pad or by stylus resembling a pen

physician that take over when a patient is admitted to the hospital
