A group of software programs sold as a single unit
Mouse
A device that allows you to select items on-screen by pointing at them with a pointer
Mouse Pointer
A marker on your computer screen that shows where the next mouse action will occur; i.e. "an arrow"
Toolbar
A row of buttons used to select features
Cursor
The insertion point indicating where text or data will be inserted in a document
Scroll Wheel
A part of the mouse that is used to navigate through a document
I-beam
A pointer shape found within document text
Menu
A list of commands located at the top of the program window
Window
The area on-screen where a program or document is displayed
Scroll
To page through a document in order to view some part of its contents that is not visible already
Title Bar
Displays the name of the program and the name of the current file
Standard Toolbar
Displays buttons for accessing common features and commands such as saving, opening, and printing files
Formatting Toolbar
Displays buttons for accessing common features such as centering text
Command
Input that tells the computer which task to execute
Menu
A list of commands
Dialog Box
Presents information about the current settings for a commond and allow one to change the settings as necessary.
Icon
A picture used to identify an element on-screen
Toggle
A command that may be switched on or off
Ellipsis
A symbol comprised of three periods that indicates a dialog box will follow
Submenu
A menu that is displayed when you select a command on another menu
Hotkey
The underlined letter in a command name
ScreenTip
A balloon containing information that is displayed when you rest your mouse pointer on certain screen elements
Shortcut menu
A menu displayed at the location where the selected command will occur
Task Pane
An area on the right side of and Office XP program window in chich you can access commands and options for certain features
Text Box
A space where you type variable information, such as a file name
Preview Area
A place where you can see the results of your selection prior to executing the command
Default
Preset standards or mode of operation
Maximize
Enlarge window to fill the entire screen
Minimize
Hides a window so it appears only as a button
Restore
Returns a window to its previous size and position on the screen
Zoom
To change the size of the document as it is displayed on-screen
Tile
Arrange windows so that they do not overlap
Cascade
Arrange windows so they overlap with the active window in front
Office Assistant
A feature of the Office help program designed to make it easy to locate helpful information
Hyperlinks
Text or graphics in a document set up to provide a direct connection with an Internet destination location or document.
Internet
A worldwide network of computers
World Wide Web
A system for finding information on the Internet through the use of linked documents
Microsoft Office Standard
Microsoft's Version with includes Word, Excel Outlook and PowerPoint
Microsoft Office Professional
Microsoft's Version which includes Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access
