a set of ordered pairs.
function
a relation in which each element of the domain is paired with exactly one element of the range.
representations
the expression or designation by some term, character, symbol, or the like.
Independent variable
The variable in a function with a value that is subjet to choice.
domain
the set of the first numbers of the ordered pairs in a relation (The "x" in an (x,y))
range
the set of second numbers of the ordered pairs in a relation. (the "y" in a (x,y))
Continuous
a function that can be graphed with a line or a smooth curve.
Discrete
a function of points that are NOT connected.
Dependent variable
The variable in a relation with a value that depends on the value of the independent value.
Increasing function
a function with a graph that goes up as it is followed from left to right. For ex. any line with a positive slope is increasing....
Decreasing function
a function with a graph that moves downward as iti s followed from left to right. For ex. any line with a negative slope is decreasing.
f(x) notation
Function notation is a way of defining a function. If a function is named f and it is dependent on the variable x, the function can be referred to as f(x), pronounced "f of x". that is not f times x.
